Understanding the Legal Consequences of Damaging Forestry Signs
Hello, I’m Oklahoma City criminal defense attorney Dillan Savage with Wirth Law Office, and I practice primarily in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area.
Today, we are going to be talking about the penalty for destruction, mutilation, or other intentional damage to forestry and fire control signs and posters that have been posted for official administrative purposes.
The Legal Repercussions of Sign Destruction
If you destroy, mutilate, or otherwise damage these posters, signs, or notices that were put up for administrative reasons, you can be charged with a misdemeanor. That misdemeanor can carry a fine of up to $200 and up to three months in jail. You could face one of those penalties—or both.
So just a good idea: if you get the itch to destroy something, go cut some logs, go do something else productive. Go throw some axes at one of those shops. But do not destroy, mutilate, or damage fire control or forestry signs and posters. Doing so could result in criminal charges, jail time, and fines.
