Strengthening Oklahoma’s Aerospace and Defense Industries Together
Hello, I’m Oklahoma City business law attorney Dillan Savage of Wirth Law Office, and I practice primarily in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area. Today we are going to be discussing the Aerospace and Defense Development Act of 2013.
This Act itself really focuses on three different agencies that partner together for the pursuit of the betterment of Oklahoma when it comes to education, training, economic development, and a few other things. You can find this Act in Title III, Section 85.3. There are quite a few rules, regulations, requirements, but also goals within this Act that talk about what these agencies do.
The Key Agencies Involved
Those three agencies are:
-
- The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission
-
- The Center of Aerospace Defense Supplier Quality, otherwise known as CADSQ
-
- The Oklahoma Aerospace Institute, or OAI
The whole purpose of this is to create, like I said, a partnership of service providers to more effectively respond to the needs of aviation, aerospace, and defense industries in, as I said before, the areas of education, training, research, and economic development.
They’re all going to have different focuses to help the state of Oklahoma and get us where we’re going. Some of the things that are going to be focused on—when it comes to CADSQ, for example—are:
-
- Serving as a conduit between the aviation, aerospace, and defense industries in Oklahoma
-
- Increasing contracts between companies in aviation
-
- Retaining more high-wage, high-skill jobs
A Focus on Education and Training
As for the OAI, it focuses on:
-
- Creating partnerships of education and training providers
-
- Meeting the specific needs of aviation and aerospace employers
So they all have specific tasks and responsibilities, but overall, the Development Act exists for the sole purpose of helping the people of Oklahoma and the state as a whole.
Again, if you want to look more into this and into the exact details—because it is quite extensive—you can go to Title III, Section 85.3.
